Dahlia Sprite

I got this adorable Dahlia Sprite from Aurora Wings on Etsy. I loved coloring her so much I think I'm going to have to purchase all the little flower sprite images.

As you can see below I watercolored her using aqua painters and Stampin' Up ink pads. Then I went back over the petals with a light colored pearlescent watercolor. When I am watercoloring digital stamps, I print (I use inkjet) on watercolor paper (I use cold press) and then I give it a good blast with my embossing heat gun to make sure the ink is set before coloring. I also tend to print two images on the same sheet so that I can test the image with ink colors and wetness to make sure the ink is set. That way if I smudge up or don't like the color on one I still have the other to color.

The dahlia flowers were clear embossed and then given a light watercolor wash before being fussy cut. The flowers are from the May 2014 KoM from Unity Stamp Co. I also used my dry embossing pens tools to round out the flowers so they wouldn't be so flat looking.

Before adhering the little sprite to the card I wanted to give it some dimension. So using my smallest dry embossing tool I went over the outline of most of the petals on the front of image. Then I flipped it over and using a larger embossing tool I went between the lines of the petals I made on the front to curve out each petal.

A little steampunk

I've never tried anything that was Steampunk-ish, even though I really like it. I found this image called It's Tea Time at Paper Shelter and figured it was time to try my hand at it.

I colored the printed image with color pencils and then used my Silhouette to cut it out.

I created the background with stamps from Tim Holtz The Journey and Life's Possibilities sets. Can you believe I found both of those sets at Michael's this week for only $5!!!! I was so excited! The large clock image I embossed all three times. I mixed different embossing powders to get different finishes for each one. The picture below shows the colors a bit better than the first image. The smaller stamp is just simply stamped with Black Soot distress ink.

I loooove shaker cards

It's true, I love shaker cards. I think they can be a pain to make sometimes though, lol. Especially when you manage to get glue everywhere or cant get the front and inside to line up. If you are going to make shaker cards, you definitely need patience. Hehe. Regardless of the mess and sometimes annoyance, I still love making these interactive styled cards.

One of the challenges I love to follow Less is More has challenged their followers to CASE a DT card. This is the DT card I chose from Sarah:

And this is my take on it:

And an up close shot of the shaker part:

I used my Silhouette to cut out the hearts. The bird image is from a random Stampabilities set from my stash and I believe the sentiment is also from Stampabilities. I used silver glitter embossing powder to emboss the birds and added some silvery/clear seed beeds to the shaker area.

Psst you cant tell in the pictures but I got glue on the top part of the front of the card. I managed to use a eraser and masking tape to get it all off. It's only noticeable if you have it in your hands so I believe this card will go in my stash rather than in my Etsy shop.

Easter Joy

Easter is only a two weeks away. Most forget about Easter and it creeps up on them faster than expected. I'm oddly prepared this year with the exception of getting the nephews' their baskets ready.

I honestly usually don't make any Easter themed cards but From the Heart Stamps makes such lovely images I couldn't help but use some this year. This image is called Old Rugged Cross and the sentiment is from Easter Trio.

The cross image I watercolored with Stampin' Up inks and aqua painters. I printed the image on watercolor paper first and then blasted it really quick with my embossing heat gun to make sure the ink was set so I could watercolor it. For the sentiment I opened it in Microsoft Word and copy pasted it down the page while changing the color through the image format options.

Manly Monday

Sometimes when making cards we forget to make a few manly ones for those men in our lives. Sadly not all men like flowery/pastel looking cards. So I think I'm going to strive to make a manly card every Monday instead of posting a Man Crush Monday pic somewhere on Facebook or Instagram.

So for my first Manly Monday card here is a birthday card.

I apologize for the bad picture but there is no sun today :(.

I used Old Olive and Rich Razzleberry for this card. Yes I snuck in some purple but I love the dark richness of the Rich Razzleberry. The Stampin' Up set I used is called Big Day. You can get this set for FREE with a $50 purchase from now until March 31st through Stampin' Up's Sale-A-Bration event!

Challenges Entered:
What Would You Stamp - #4 Big Day
Mojo Monday #390 - Great CAS sketch this week!
Sister Act #98
Pile It On - #61 sentiment as focal point.
